Abstract
Requirements engineering is the activity of matching product properties with stakeholder expectations. Products are bought or they would not be manufactured. That means that specifying product properties is an activity at the core of economics, the science and practice making decisions about which products to buy (and sell) in a world of finite resources. Which in turn means that the requirements of a product must align with the business model of the product, the description of how the product creates value, how value is delivered to the customer, and how the supplier captures value from this. Therefore the requirements of a product must align with the business model of the product. In this talk I discuss the consequences of this view for RE research and practice.
