Makassar Language Word Class Category

Abstract . This study aims to describe the categories of word class of the Makassar language phrases. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive design. The data of this research are Makassar language phrases obtained from informants who are native speakers of the Makassar language who reside in Bontonompa District, Gowa Regency. To obtain accurate data in this study, observation, interview, elicitation, and introspection techniques were used. The data that has been collected were analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques. The results of the data analysis show that the types of phrases in Makassar consist of six types of phrases with varying formation patterns, namely: noun phrases, verb phrases, adjective phrases, adverb phrases, numeralia phrases, and prepositional phrases.
