Abstract
This study is to explore the properties of Spanish adjunct control construction and provide an appropriate analysis for it. The discussion is developed based on the Form Copy (FC) hypothesis proposed by Chomsky (2021) and this hypothesis is applied as a new alternative analysis to adjunct control construction. To this end, we have first looked at some theoretical problems with the conventional control theory, which assumes empty category PRO. And we have also explained what Form Copy hypothesis is and how it can be applied to the control construction. One of the important characteristics of adjunct control is that subject control occurs, not object control. However, in the case of Spanish, when the object is converted into a clitic pronoun, interestingly, the object control becomes possible. To explain this phenomenon, we have accepted Uriagereka's (1995) Big DP hypothesis and have used Torrego's (1998) idea that object clitic pronoun is a morphological realization of the phi features of v*. Under this analysis, we have accounted for how the object control is possible in Spanish adjunct control construction.
