Abstract
We present the Quantum Internet Foundation (QIF), a modular software framework forquantum network simulation with integrated support for quantum computing hardware. Theframework makes three primary contributions: (1) a corrected implementation of the E91quantum key distribution protocol that properly calculates CHSH values of 2√2 ≈ 2.828 forperfect Bell states, resolving a common implementation error that yields CHSH ≈ 2.0; (2) aproduction-ready JavaScript-to-Python quantum bridge enabling seamless integration betweenweb-based network simulation and quantum computing hardware via IBM Quantum, characterized with∼15ms overhead; (3) a hardware abstraction layer (Q-HAL) providing vendoragnostic device drivers forphotonic, NV-center, superconducting, and quantum repeatersystems with integrated energy consumption modeling. Additionally, the framework providesreference implementations of BB84, SARG04, and BBM92 protocols, peer-to-peer networkingcapabilities, and educational simulation tools. All core components pass comprehensivetesting (12 tests covering QKD protocols, hardware integration, and network operations).QIF serves as both an educational platform for quantum networking concepts and a researchtool for protocol development, complementing hardware-focused quantum internet research.
