Abstract

In this paper we describe a concept for modification of high capacity bulk mode (layer 1) cryptographic device that is originally designed for pre-shared key distribution to adopt quantum key distribution system. The main goal is to achieve reliable session key agreement suitable to operate at extreme bit rates without unnecessary frequent key agreement protocols, like commonly used Diffie-Helman. The architecture of solution is designed to achieve high encryption speed and maximal level of security is described in details. It is designed by utilizing field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology at gate level, bios-only microcontroller and Linux based embedded computer.
