Abstract

Blockchain is reshaping value co-creation in construction projects. Although previous studies have recognized the value of blockchain in construction, its effects on value co-creation and boundary conditions remain empirically underexplored. This study develops a conceptual framework linking blockchain and construction project value co-creation based on organizational information processing and dynamic capabilities views. A questionnaire survey was conducted, and the framework was tested using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The results show that blockchain significantly facilitates integration management and stakeholder collaboration, both of which enable value co-creation in construction projects. Moreover, government support positively moderates the relationship between blockchain and stakeholder collaboration, while its moderating effect on the relationship between blockchain and integration management is insignificant. The moderating role of task–technology fit between blockchain, integration management and stakeholder collaboration is also confirmed. These findings contribute to the literature on blockchain implementation and value co-creation in construction projects and offer practical insights for policymakers and practitioners involved in project management and policy formulation.
