Food Traceability using Blockchain Technology: Systematic Review

Abstract
In a world where demand is on the rise and supply networks are getting more and more complicated, ensuring food safety is a major challenge. Despite rising awareness, efforts to guarantee food safety face several obstacles, such as the transmission of information, budgetary limits, and insufficient infrastructure. Beside of the centralized system that being more complex for many parties, blockchain is decentralized system which making easier sharing verified information between parties. This literature study examines food traceability through the application of blockchain technology in several industries. This article reviews the sector, focusing on the application of blockchain technology for food traceability over the years. A comprehensive analysis of the current literature has been conducted. The principal 'search string' was identified in the Scopus and IEEE database, concentrating on the deployment of food traceability utilizing blockchain technology; subsequent to filtering, the analysis was conducted. From the total of 884 reviewed literature, 25 primary research published between 2020 and 2024 were chosen. This article examines the essential components for developing a food traceability model utilizing blockchain technology, as well as the issues that must be addressed.
