Abstract

The next generation networks create a demand for improved data rates and quality of service, with smaller and low power handheld device designs. There is a need for detection methods which provide near optimum performance with minimal computational complexity. The concept of T-constrained codes and minimum Pearson distance (MPD) based detection (instead of Euclidean distance) was recently developed for optical storage media. In this work, we develop an MPD detection based transceiver for digital communication over AWGN and fading channels. We investigate the statistical nature of data detection problem in the two cases, and determine the optimum code word length. The proposed system demonstrates good BER performance with significantly reduced computational complexity.
