Abstract
This paper presents a novel approach for enabling fault-tolerant multicast communication across hybrid and multi-cloud environments by leveraging the swXtch.io cloudSwXtch platform. Traditional multicast protocols are unsupported in public cloud infrastructure, posing a critical challenge for industries such as finance, retail, and IoT that depend on low-latency, real-time data distribution. We introduce a software-defined multicast overlay architecture that bridges legacy on-premises systems with cloud-native workloads, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and minimal packet loss. The solution is validated through a practical implementation on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), addressing challenges in VM configuration, NSG policy enforcement, and license management. Benchmark results show improvements in failover response time, throughput consistency, and route convergence. Our proposed architecture demonstrates a scalable and resilient path forward for multicast in modern enterprise deployments and highlights best practices for network observability, automation, and cross-cloud compatibility.
