Abstract

Compared to other types of energy, solar energy is one of the most environmentally friendly types. In modern realities, the introduction, usage, and integration of renewable energy sources into energy systems are growing every year. However, the output from photovoltaic (PV) systems remains unstable due to the dynamic changes in solar radiation caused by the rapid movement of clouds across the sky. As a result, accurate short-term solar radiation forecasting has become crucial for ensuring the efficiency and safety of power system operations. The objective of this article is to provide a comprehensive overview of ultra-short-term forecasting of solar energy, including the importance of this type of forecasting, the current state of the technology, our team's project and opportunities for future research and development. By the end of the article, readers should have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of ultra-short-term forecasting for solar energy and the potential implications for the future of renewable energy. It delves into existing approaches, highlighting their strengths and limitations. Moreover, the article introduces an innovative project developed by our team in the field of solar radiation prediction.
