Abstract

Introduction: Cataloging is the process of describing, organizing, and representing informational resources to facilitate their search, identification, and retrieval in information systems more efficiently. Objective: To analyze the national scientific production on cataloging over the past five years (2020–2024). Methodology: This study adopts a bibliographic, exploratory, and descriptive research methodology with a qualitative approach, based on a review of scientific publications available in the Base de Dados de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação (BRAPCI), focusing on the period from 2020 to 2024. Results: As a result of the search, 117 scientific publications on the topic were mapped. These were categorized into five thematic approaches: teaching of cataloging; cataloging of different informational resources (texts, images, audio, video); new trends in cataloging in the context of the semantic web and linked data; historical and conceptual aspects of cataloging; and formats and standards for cataloging practices. Conclusion: The study highlights the need to investigate the relationship between cataloging and new digital tools and systems, aiming to improve management performance and support services provided by information professionals, with a focus on meeting the demands of the current informational, technological, and market context.
