Paper overview
Abstract
Today's vehicles are typically equipped with dozens of electronic control units that control one or more of the electrical systems or subsystems. Due to the rapid development towards autonomous driving, vehicle functionalities strongly depend on the communication between diverse control units (xCUs). Herein, tampering to manipulate e. g. the emission values of environmental protection systems (EPSs) to gain financial benefits poses a cyber risk to the various xCUs. To protect the communication channels from tampering/cyber-attacks, advanced key exchange and key management schemes are required.
