Abstract

Smart buildings are run by Building Management Systems (BMS)that are cyber-physical systems that control and monitor a numberof buildings’ subsystems. BMS have not been sufficiently prioritizedon their reliability measures. Reliability, however, along withsecurity, safety, energy performance and occupant comfort, are veryimportant for certain classes of BMS [1]. This is especially true forBMS of critical buildings, such as hospitals or other buildings thathost emergency services. The same would apply to buildings thatstore sensitive materials (e.g. certain biochemical substances) ortechnologies, where buildings’ unreliable operation could havecatastrophic consequences. With the convenience and ease ofobtaining data at present, reliability analysis of BMS can besubstantially supported and enhanced. Furthermore, cloudcomputing can be utilized to support collaborative sharing andbenefiting from each other building’s data. To utilize all of this, wework towards cloud-based BMS reliability analysis framework, anddescribe our concept1.
