Abstract

Cross-chain bridges tackle the essential issue of interoperability among blockchains; nonetheless, they are becoming appealing targets for attackers due to their centralised holding of funds. This paper rigorously analyses principal attack methodologies on cross-chain bridges through three critical dimensions: economic security, environmental security, and implementation security, utilising insights from recent prominent occurrences. The paper recommends specific countermeasures and security improvements to mitigate these vulnerabilities. The results offer strong theoretical bases and practical recommendations for enhancing the security of cross-chain bridge technologies, thereby bolstering the resilience and reliability of blockchain ecosystems.
