Abstract
The paper deals with the influence of the postmodern condition on the development of the humanities in the beginning of the 21 st century. The paper points out that the original thesis of postmodernity about the infinite variability of texts poses a threat to the scientific status of history, philology, socio-economic sciences, which are denied the possibility to reliably determine the true content of the texts being explored. There are different strategies that the humanities use to preserve their scientific status: conservation of a previous methodological apparatus, partial adaptation of postmodern ideas, response criticism of a postmodernist world view. The author comes to the conclusion that all of them are unsatisfactory, and the destruction of scientific humanistic knowledge is currently continuing. A promising strategy of opposing postmodernity is to renounce a rigorous commitment to scientific criteria and to transform history and philology into an activity that is similar to an artistic one.
