Meaning and Strategies of Empathic Feedback in Presentations Class

소통이 중심적 가치로 자리매김한 시대에 상호 이해와 존중은 필수적 요건이다. 그리고 그것은 상호 공감을 기저로 할 때 보다 충실한 실현이 가능해진다. 이러한 상황 속에서 대학은 기초 교양 교육을 통해 소통과 공감 교육의 깊이를 다져가고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 소통 교육의 일환으로 진행되는 발표 수업에서 교수자의 피드백이 지향해야 할 방향으로 공감을 설정하고 그 방향의 의미와 그것의 구체적 실현 방안들을 모색해 보았다. 공감은 상대를 느끼거나 의식하고 또 상대와 교류하고 소통하는 것이다. 그러므로 소통 교육의 장인 발표 수업에서 교수자는 권위적인 관점으로부터 탈피하여 공감적 관점에서 피드백을 진행시킬 필요가 있다. 교수자는 우선 학생들의 발표를 깊이 있게 귀 기울여 듣고 공명적으로 반응하여야 한다. 그리고 발표자의 입장에서 생각해 보고 발표자와 그 이해의 정도를 소통하여야 한다. 나아가 탈권위적인 자세로 공감을 기저로 하는 보정적 대화를 시도하며 발표자의 공감을 이끌어내어야 한다. 공감의 순환을 이루어야 한다. 결국 총체적인 차원에서 공감의 피드백을 실현시켜야 하는 것이다. 이러한 공감의 피드백은 소통과 공감 교육의 본이 될 수 있으며, 교수자와 학습자 간의 소통의 원활성을 향상시켜 교육적 성취의 도를 높일 수 있을 것이다.Mutual understanding and respect is an essential condition in this age in which communication plays a prominent role. It may become strengthened on the basis of mutual empathy. Nowadays, universities are reinforcing the education of communication and empathy through liberal arts. This research directs the instructor’s feedback to empathy in a presentation class, which is considered a part of communication education, and seeks varying means for it. Empathy is to feel or to recognize the other side. It also refers to interaction and communication with the other person. Thus, it is necessary that the instructor give feedback from an empathic, non-authoritarian perspective in a presentation class as it is a place for communication education. First, the instructor should pay attention to the student’s presentation and resonate with it. The instructor is expected to not only put himself or herself into the student’s shoes but also strike up a conversation with compensatory strategies originated from empathy, in order to share the level of understanding and draw the sympathy of the presenter. After all, empathic feedback must be realized comprehensively. Such feedback may be exemplary to the education of communication and empathy, and promote the exchange between the instructor and the student which leads to a rise in educational achievement.
