In the health sector, persistent challenges in the safeguarding of sensitive patient data still exist, with breached data creating serious concerns for patients and results in huge financial losses coupled with reputational losses. This paper explores how blockchain technology may fill the urgent need for improving data security for healthcare systems. This approach combined a thorough literature review, interviews with subject matter experts, and a quantitative analysis to bring blockchain implementation to five major healthcare institutions. Our results indicate that with blockchain-enabled systems, data breach incidents went down by 73% within two years compared to the traditional data management system. Moreover, patient trust increased by 62% based on survey and engagement metrics when blockchain-enabled systems were deployed. In addition, the study found important implementation barriers: startup costs, compliance with regulatory considerations, and training needs of employees. At the same time, potential long-term benefits of blockchain technology include data integrity protection, lower breach-related expenses, and improved patient relationships. Therefore, in conclusion, blockchain technology holds out promise to be a solution that can improve healthcare data security, revolutionizing the ways industry-wide patient data management practices should be implemented. The future research will also include scalability solutions and integration with existing health information systems to make it easier to be more widely adopted.
